Fishing
“Gone Fishing” – how many men have left that note over the years, and how many more have wanted to? I’m not sure why it appears to be so much of a male domain really, and I apologise in advance to any women out there who enjoy casting their line to catch an unsuspecting fish, but fishing does seem to be mans escape. To sit on a quiet river bank with a couple of beers and a bucket of worms, row into the middle of a serene lake on an old battered rowing boat or alternatively, head out to sea to pit their strength and their wits against the monsters of the deep is definitely a “man thing”.
One thing which I’m sure many women find difficult to understand is the act of fishing for fishings sake, I mean, if you fancy a bit of a fish supper then by all means get your rod out and do your bit as the traditional hunter to feed your family, but to catch fish just to take a photo and throw it back in the water with a sore mouth – not within the psyche of most women I’m afraid.
Fishing Equipment
With so many different types of fishing, it stands to reason that you need different equipment to catch different fish.
- Angling – is what most hobby fisherman get up to when they manage to escape for a few hours. You simply need a fishing rod (of which once again there are tons of different types) with a line and a hook, and then either some live bait (the bucket of worms) or some lure close to the hook to attract the fish to take a bite and – bingo – you’ve caught yourself a fish.
- Fly fishing – is a variation of angling, whereby you need a bit of good wrist action to flick your lure around on the surface of the water, making it jump around as if it were a fly, and hopefully persuading some unsuspecting fish to take a bite.
- Trolling – is often used to catch the big game fish out at sea, tuna and marlin for example. Dragging the bait through the water at vast speeds (you need a fast boat for this one, it doesn’t work in the rowing boat on the lake) it is generally a good way to attract these fish.
- Toe fishing – OK, this one might not quite live up to the other methods of fishing. All you need is a bit of string tied around your big toe, an old hooked nail on one end with a worm tied to it, then you simply lie back and doze on the river bank with the line in the water, and if you feel something pulling on your toe, all of your efforts have been worthwhile.
Buy Fishing Equipment
Of course, there are a lot more types of fishing equipment available than is mentioned here, but a great place to buy it is from one of the many websites on the internet. Simply search a few sites and I’m sure that you’ll find the best fishing equipment for whatever type of fishing takes your fancy.
